Mount Gede Pangrango
Java island is well known as a ring of fire, as there are 41 volcanoes in Java island and 17 volcanoes in West Java. Two of the most prominent volcanoes are situated in Cianjur, they are Mount Gede (2,958 m) and Mount Pangrango (3,019 m). Gunung Gede-Pangrango National Park covers 15,196 hectares that include Cibodas Botanical Garden. The Park was declared nature conservation area in 1889 and in 1977 UNESCO declared the Gunung Gede-Pangrango National Park a Biosphere Reserve. For three months, because of the high rainfall during the rainy season, the Park is closed(between January through March) when heavy fog and clouds cover the peaks and strong winds prevail - especially during February and March. Best time to visit is during the dry season, from June right through to September. Around these peaks are perfect locations for bird watching, stunning lakes, waterfalls. It may be nice to spend a night Camping in the area close by the hot springs or perhaps at the next shelter - Kandang Badak - which is a favorite camping ground for hikers who want to go to Mount Gede or Pangrango.
So, if you would like to hike... Come to PHPA offices at Cibodas, Gunung Putri(Cianjur) and Salabintana(Sukabumi). You need to bring a copy of your passport.
